A good deck gives you more room to enjoy your home. It can be a quiet place for morning coffee, a comfortable spot for weekend cookouts, or a welcoming space where family and friends gather. At Deck Builders Louisville KY, we help homeowners turn those ideas into practical outdoor spaces with custom deck construction, thoughtful design, and materials selected for Kentucky weather.
Whether you're replacing an aging deck, planning a new backyard addition, or considering low-maintenance composite decking, we start by understanding your home, your goals, and your budget. We work with homeowners throughout Louisville and surrounding communities, helping them compare options, understand the construction process, and make confident decisions.
Deck Builders Louisville KY was founded by Daniel Mercer, a Louisville-area carpenter who developed his approach to outdoor construction through years of residential remodeling and hands-on carpentry. Working on older homes and newer neighborhoods around Jefferson County taught him that a successful deck needs more than attractive boards. It needs sound structural planning, appropriate materials, careful installation, and a design that fits how the homeowner actually lives.
Daniel built the company around straightforward conversations and practical craftsmanship. Alongside project coordinator Sarah Whitfield and lead carpenter Marcus Bennett, the team focuses on helping homeowners understand their options without unnecessary pressure. From the first measurements to the final walkthrough, the goal is to make the project understandable and the finished space useful, comfortable, and built with care.

Learn more →Louisville has a wide variety of homes and outdoor spaces. A raised deck behind a Highlands-area home may call for a different approach than a broad, ground-level deck in Fern Creek or a backyard entertaining space in Middletown. We consider the home's architecture, yard slope, drainage, access, sun exposure, and the way the deck will connect to doors, patios, and landscaping. Our service area includes Louisville, St. Matthews, Jeffersontown, Hurstbourne, Lyndon, Anchorage, Prospect, Springhurst, Highview, Okolona, Pleasure Ridge Park, Valley Station, Shively, Fairdale, and nearby communities.
We also work with homeowners in Mount Washington, Shepherdsville, La Grange, Crestwood, Hillview, Pewee Valley, Taylorsville, and Shelbyville, as well as Southern Indiana communities including Jeffersonville, New Albany, Clarksville, Sellersburg, Georgetown, Charlestown, and Floyds Knobs. Project scheduling and availability may vary by address and scope. If you're considering a deck project anywhere in the greater Louisville region, contact us to discuss your property and what you'd like to build.

We consider how your deck connects to your house, yard, and daily routine. The goal is a space that looks natural and feels comfortable to use.
Deck foundations, framing, connections, stairs, and railings deserve careful attention. We plan around applicable building requirements and the conditions of each property.
We explain the differences between pressure-treated lumber, composite decking, and other appropriate options so you can weigh appearance, maintenance, and cost.
We discuss the scope, expected schedule, material decisions, and possible complications before construction begins. Changes are easier to manage when everyone understands the plan.
Our approach reflects the needs of local homes, from established neighborhoods with mature trees to newer subdivisions with open backyards.
We look beyond the first day your deck is finished, considering drainage, access for maintenance, weather exposure, and how the space will age.
Deck construction costs depend on the size, height, materials, stairs, railings, and site conditions. Composite materials and complex layouts generally cost more upfront than basic pressure-treated wood construction. We can review your plans and prepare a project-specific estimate.
Many deck projects require permits or other approvals, depending on their location and construction details. Requirements can differ between Louisville Metro, nearby Kentucky communities, and Southern Indiana jurisdictions. We recommend confirming the applicable requirements before work begins.
Composite decking is popular because it generally needs less routine maintenance than traditional wood decking. Pressure-treated lumber can offer a lower initial material cost and a familiar natural appearance. The better choice depends on your budget, preferences, and willingness to maintain the surface.
Some decks only need targeted repairs, such as replacing damaged boards, improving railings, or addressing loose stairs. Others have structural deterioration that makes extensive rebuilding or replacement more appropriate. An inspection helps determine which approach makes sense.
